Catching the train

Yesterday I was running through the streets of Barcelona trying to catch the 18:31 train that takes me home every night. I had stayed to work 5 minutes later than I needed to, and I was nervous, because I knew that I risked missing the train.

I think that the same idea applies to entrepreneurs. It seems that there is the constant fear of missing the train. Success is a journey with various destinations, but if you miss your train, you might not end up where you want when you needed to get there. And in the case of entrepreneurs, the journey is full of risks.

Sometimes it seems that the train that you are running to catch is the very last one, and if you miss it, you might not have a second chance. In the case of an entrepreneur, you can’t catch the train if you don’t believe in yourself. Without self-belief you’re likely to miss opportunities that pass you by, because your fear will translate into paralyzing inaction. You’re stuck in the same place and don’t seem to know how to move forward.

To catch the train, you also have to make sure to be in the right place at the right time. An entrepreneur who isn’t fully invested in his project, because he is afraid of taking risks condemns his start-up to certain failure. So my advice is that if you really believe in your project, you should be willing to sacrifice a lot to realize your dream and should be willing to work as possible to make it happen. Your project should consume you. If you aren’t willing to give the project your all, then you are probably just wasting your time.
