How can you increase your Internet traffic?
An a interesting post of Mashable made me reflect on how to generate increased traffic. I realised that a lot of people seem to be absolutely convinced that the Internet is still not a tool commonly used by the vast majority of people. You, however, probably belong to that small percentage of users that connect to the web on a daily basis, and you might even use it at work and for entertainment.
Social networks will help to bridge this gap, as they allow more experienced users to teach inexpert users how the Internet can help to simplify everyday life. Common platforms allow more experienced users to demonstrate how the Internet can be used to obtain information related to specific interests and to communicate with other people in a safe environment.
Social networks like GroupRecipes are a great example of this trend. It’s a new social network for food lovers. The site’s most interesting feature is its recipe robot that make recommendations according to your previous views of the page and to its recipes.
GroupRecipes also have a Digg-like feature - a “Bite This” button - and the possibility of adding your personal annotations to a featured recipe.
When most businesspeople analyse new web projects, and in particular social networks, the first question is usally: What is the business model? It’s not 100% clear to me either, but as Pete Cashmore explains, GroupRecipes can attract advertisers related to the food industry - for example, food magazines, etc.
My interest in this subject is more about how this community will grow (and less a general interest in cooking), so I will monitor its progress and inform you about the evolution of its growth.

Hi Carlos:
I am writing to you as the Co-founder of iFood (www.ifood.tv), a global food video community that has been in beta existence since Feb, 2007. I am writing to you about two very exciting features we have just launched.
1. iFood Explorer €“ This is a revolutionary way to visualize your network. It is an application that allows people to see the complex network of connections between people and food. Most social networks don€™t support a way to visualize the network as a network or allow people to take their network with them. The ifood explorer shows p2p, f2f (food 2 food) and p2f2p (people 2 food 2 people connections) in a network view. This whole explorer will be made embeddable anywhere - so people can not only take their video, recipes but also their friend networks with them where ever they want! Check it out at http://www.ifood.tv/explore
2. Your TV: We are starting the “Your iFood TV To Go” campaign. We built the first of its kind portable (in the web world, embeddable) TV for our users. Let me explain. Well most video sites allow you to embed your videos anywhere, but only one by one (ok youtube has a playlist but we are making our TV very food oriented). We have gone a step ahead and said “wait a minute, why should a user have to embed one video at a time. Why cant they take their entire TV channel wherever they want?” So we built the ifood “take your tv with you” TV box.
I wanted to let you have preview of this TV box. The tv is customizable for every user, for a particular cuisine or a hybrid. See some examples below
User Default Tv: http://www.ifood.tv/channel?id=2613 Category Tv: http://www.ifood.tv/channel?tid=28 Hybrid Tv: http://www.ifood.tv/channel?tid=28&id=617
The user TV shows one’s all video posts on ifood, their favorite videos and any specific ifood channels they like. The category videos (here Chinese cuisine) can be made for any tag - we can thus now launch 1000s of tag specific and user specific TVs The app is still in beta, and the first release is coming out in a limited way in a few days. We will soon be adding a lot of food related features on the TV player. Come, get your own TV player and the ifood explorer network !!
Hope you find these interesting - within a space of 1-2 weeks these two will be out there and marketed heavily. We at iFood are passionate about making one of the best food entertainment, information and connectivity platform for global food lovers and these are our steps in accomplishing that goal. And yes, please accept this free cookbook that features some great ifood chefs with links to their video recipes (http://www.ifood.tv/files/iFoodcookbook.pdf)
Thanks,
Nitin Agarwal | Co-founder, http://www.ifood.tv
